The Shoe Birds by Eudora Welty Illustrated by Beth Krush
1993 - Hard cover with Dust Jacket - New - 88 pages - 6 1/4 x 9 1/4
Eudora Welty was a well-known American author and the winning of a Pulitzer Prize for literature in 1973. This is her only book written for children.
This humorous tale originally published in 1964 is about Arturo, a macaw who lives and works in a shoe store. He takes everything literally and when he hears an annoyed schoolboy say "Shoes are for the birds." Soon this information is spread all around the bird kingdom and one of each species flies through an open window in the Friendly Shoe Store. One bird from each species is fitted with shoes. This results in a humorous story full of jokes, wit, gags, plays on words and elaborate puns.
