Sally Blanchard Rare Hardwood Inlay Bird Sculpture of a Chestnut-backed Chickadee - One of a kind - last one she is selling - signed on bottom
This chickadee is 6" high, 5" from beak to tip and has 24 inlays of 11 different woods. Woods used include Wenge, Queensland Walnut, African Blackwood, Holly and English Harewood (I can't remember some of them now) with a base of crotch walnut. It is in as new condition.
For over 20 years - from the late 1960s to the late 1980s Sally Blanchard created over 1,200 intricate Bird Sculptures by piecing different natural hardwood species, grains, and colors together using an intricate pattern to create 3-dimensional sculptures of over 1,200 using as many different types of woods. No dyes, paints or stains were used. This is a unique technique that she developed herself and no one has come clsot to matching it. All of her sculptures sold in galleries and art shows throughout the United States. She had to stop her work abruptly because of neck injury from a car accident. She was left with only a small sampling of her work. To see more of her work: https://companionparrotonline.com/rhibs.html All of the pieces shown on this page have been sold.
